Subject: Baldauf Health Report Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 14:24:22 -0400 To all, Dr.'s appointment (Dr. Fred Barker) went fine this morning. The Dr. read the reports and looked at the CT scans and MRI scans and is setting up surgery for next Tuesday (24th). He described the operation as "tricky" and will have a team of personnel there. He's concerned about the proximity of the tumor to Lesley's speech center. We'll be going back in to Mass General this week for another MRI done with some speech professionals present (how that works I'm not really sure since I thought an MRI was a static thing), and then back in on Monday for about 2 hours of pre-operation tests and a final pre-operation consult with the doctor. Then in Tuesday morning for the operation. At this point, we don't know how long the recovery from the operation will take nor do we know the exact post-operation treatment. It will almost certainly be radiation, perhaps with chemotherapy. We also do not know the long term prospects. More will become clear after the operation and biopsy are done. Lesley is in reasonably good spirits and is feeling good with occasional mild headaches that Tylenol pretty much takes care of. Dave
