Subject: Lesley Update - 11/1 Unfortunately, I had to take Lesley back to MGH on Saturday into the emergency room. The swelling reoccurred. They operated on her yesterday afternoon (Sunday) to "debulk" (such an awful term but, I guess, accurate). It was a necessary surgery - no option. The doctor seemed to be pleased with the outcome. He doesn't think they did any more damage to her (speech, right side) and he removed quite a lot of dead tumor. She was also able to move all parts of her body. He said her brain is more relaxed (whatever that means) than it has been in a long time. I spoke with her briefly after she returned from surgery. Although she was quite groggy from the anesthesia, she did open her eyes for a short time when I spoke to her and showed some responses to my talking with her. She kissed me when I left. This morning (Monday) I called and they said that she was still a bit groggy but she was talking and reacting well. She'll be transferred out of Neuro Intensive Care later today and they'll do a routine post-operative MRI this afternoon (buy stock in the MRI company, this is her fourth in the last two weeks :-)). I'll be going to see her at about 11 AM. My folks flew back up from Florida yesterday (also buy stock in Delta) to help out with the kids and the house (and provide me with support). More as the week progresses. Dave -- Dave Baldauf, h/o Lesley, gbm, dx/srg 8/99, rad 9/99, rad completed 10/99, debulk srg 10/99, probably starting Temodar 11/99 mailto:dbaldauf@ultranet.com
