Subject: Lesley Update - 6/22/01 Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 09:19:57 -0400 From: David Baldauf I apologize to those who have written. I have not gotten around to responding individually. Lesley is now in a nursing home and receiving both nursing home treatment and hospice care. Our focus has shifted from trying to get her better to making her comfortable. I'm with her all afternoon until about 8:00 unless the kids have an important evening activity. Even though she is mostly unresponsive at this point, I want her to know that I am there for her. We're trying to deal with this as a family (my parents are staying at our house with us), but I'm sure we'll resume our counseling sessions with our outside counselor. Kim and Chris and I are doing OK. We've all had some good talks and good cries. They went to see her Wednesday afternoon and Lesley was unresponsive to them so it certainly hit them hard. They said their goodbyes to her. Last night Kim was in the middle school talent show singing in Japanese. On Tuesday she won an award for highest Math average in her "team" at the middle school. Chris played in a baseball playoff game and won. Sorrow intermingles with life. It's what I would expect. I've prearranged the funeral arrangements and I am currently writing up her obituary. It will appear in the Boston Globe, Lowell Sun, Trenton Times, and Newark Star Ledger. We'll be going to get appropriate clothes tomorrow. We're hanging in there.
